The derpressing to do list. [21 Jul 2014|10:04am]
[ mood | depressed ]

Real case of the Mondays. Depression has hit me hard. I think it is caused by a sense of an overwhelming do to a list. Everything on the list is in the Urgent and Important category. I prefer it when they are in the Distant and Unimportant category.

Lack of effective communication- a letter to a fellow prisoner [17 Jul 2014|02:35pm]
[ mood | aggravated ]

Dear XXXX,
The lack of effective communication skills from our boss has negatively affected my job performance. I have found the most effective way to perform my job is to ignore the boss's request and make sure that the undergraduates come to me prior to executing the boss's request to correct the boss’s assumptions and lack of effective communications.
I am worried it might beyond a lack of effective communication skills and lack of management skills and even a strong foundation of research skills. So often I have to translate what he wants to the undergrads because they don't know this devil, and I do.
We lost out on getting an new graduate student. The new grad's statement was she did not feel welcomed. The boss blames everyone else in the lab. He does not realize the grad felt unwelcomed due to the lack of interaction between her and the boss. When they did interact the graduate student was left confused and then came to me. I would ask her "What exactly did 'the boss' say?" She could never really remember. And so I was no help what so ever. I told her the best she could do was to press ahead with what she understood to be what the boss said.
The boss places blame on everyone else. He says "You dropped the ball." It is hard to drop the ball when you take it away.
Anyway, you shouldn't have to long left, try to make the most of it. And rule number one: Check with me, so I can translate the boss's wishes into something useful.
Sincerely,
Synecho

SDS-PAGE (minus SDS) [20 Aug 2007|09:35am]
[ mood | tired ]

I had a SDS-PAGE run for about nine hours on the recommended current which should have taken about 5 hours. I believe I forgot to add SDS to the mix before casting the gel. I don't remember it being bubbly before degassing, so I think this is the case. It still ran fine and separated, I think, because I did not stain it for total protein. I autoradiographed it and got nothing, which might just be the reaction setup. It is prolonging the inevitable.

Fisher Science [16 Aug 2007|11:13am]
[ mood | quixotic ]

We received a order from Fisher. The packing slip says it is 3 Boxes of Petri Dishes. In actuality it is 3 Boxes of 10 Cases of 500 Transfer Pipets. That is 15,000 Transfer Pipets. The catalog numbers are not even remotely close. I am hoping that some idiot accidentally placed the wrong shipping tags on them and we got someone else's stuff, however, I find this very unlikely. Why would anyone order 15,000 transfer Pipets at one time?

Finding another labs trash [14 Aug 2007|10:18am]
[ mood | angry ]

I was about to autoclave the bio hazards in our lab when I found some used fly vials. This was very surprising since we don't research flies nor have fly vials. I am so pissed. I am going to kill some genomicist.

Albert Rosenfield
You're Agent Albert Rosenfield, the snide and
superior forensics expert. Your tongue is
sharper than your scalpel, and it doesn't take
long for people to start hating you for your
supercilious quips, but you are the very best
at what you do. You don't suffer fools gladly,
but you give respect when it's due. In fact,
you're a good guy at heart, but so wedded to
your sarcasm that you can rarely stand to treat
people kindly.
